Earth Day
In honor of Earth Day, April 22, 2016, students at Cove Creek have been learning and celebrating in a variety of ways.  Among the activities included were classrooms decorating paper grocery bags to be redistributed at local businesses.  Mrs. Dorothy Combs' class was one such class.  They decorated bags with slogans, messages, illustrations, etc. Their bags have been delivered to Ingle's and are being used to bag groceries over the next few days!

Also, a one 4th grade and one middle school class were able to participate in a live webinar with world famous National Geographic Explorer and oceanographer, Dr. Sylvia Earle.  The event was hosted by Time for Kids and edWebnet.  Students had the opportunity to participate by answering trivia questions, engaging in the live chat under the direction of the teachers and were even able to submit questions for answering.  Dr. Earle intrigued students with her passion for the ocean and gave further incite into how exciting it is to explore the earth below the surface.  She not only shared with students her love of learning, but also challenged them to step out and explore all that the earth has to offer.  She left them with the challenge to give back to the earth and all living things in such a way that it makes the world a healthier place to live.

Mountaineer Ruritan Support
Mountaineer Ruritan President Mark Trivette and member Laura Johnson presented Principal Toby Cone and teacher Debbie Norris with checks to support school projects the Monday following spring break.

The Ruritans are a local service organization that helps support schools and service groups in our area.  Most of their funds come from the fish/chicken fries that are held the second Friday of each month April-October at the Ruritan Building in Cove Creek.  We encourage everyone to come enjoy dinner and help return the support for the service organization which certainly has a heart for the community it represents.

BOB
Congratulations to our BOB (Battle of the Books) Teams for another great season! Both our Elementary (white) and Middle School BOB teams placed 3rd in the county competition held at ASU. The 2015-2016 BOB list consisted of 18 books for the elementary students and 27 books for middle schoolers. Our students represented Cove Creek with great enthusiasm and team spirit. Much reading and preparation went into getting ready for competition. And as expected, everyone was highly impressed by the students' knowledge of the books they read.
