Welcome to Cove Creek School!
Mock Trial
On May 13, several Cove Creek middle schoolers along with their coach, AIG/Math teacher - Stephanie Kostis, participated in the first annual county-wide Mock Trial Competition.  The trial was  held at the Watauga County Courthouse to add emphasis to the event.  Our students represented themselves and Cove Creek with incredible leadership, confidence and maturity and boy did they look sharp!

Students were judged on a rubric by two jurors and the judge (a local attorney).  The winner was determined by a best of three format.  Teams were also rated on their presentation and execution of the case itself and could score as high as 110 pts.  We proudly announce that Cove Creek's Mock Trial team won both of their cases - a Prosecution Case (vs Hardin Park Defense) and a Defense Case (vs Blowing Rock Prosecution).  Way to go students!

Blue Quilt

Fourth Graders study about NC History in Social Studies

In the fall of this school year, fourth graders read the book Blue by Joyce Hostetter.  As a way of celebrating part of their local Watauga County history, the class decided to make a quilt based on the book.  Students began making their quilt squares in the fall and by April the project was complete.

The project began with students drawing a teardrop shaped bottle which would later become their quilt squares.  Students then sewed their cut-out designs onto various quilting material and then attached their squares.

The project would not have been a success were it not for the help & talent of Carolyn Walters (media specialist) and Jane Arrington (a substitute & volunteer). Mrs. Arrington offered her quilting expertise and talent by helping sew things together and creating the batting.   The students learned a great deal about sewing and enjoyed making the quilt.  As you can see from the picture, the finished product is truly beautiful!  We are very proud of the students and their hard work and for those who helped make it a reality.

Probability Carnival
When a teacher says her classroom “just exploded” with ideas and discussion, you probably wouldn’t guess the topic involved numbers. But that’s how Stephanie Kostis, AIG and math teacher at Cove Creek School, described what happened when her seventh graders’ discussion of probability and carnival games led to the suggestion of a Probability Carnival at school.  Read more...

BOB
Congratulations to our BOB (Battle of the Books) Teams for another great season! Both our Elementary (white) and Middle School BOB teams placed 3rd in the county competition held at ASU. The 2015-2016 BOB list consisted of 18 books for the elementary students and 27 books for middle schoolers. Our students represented Cove Creek with great enthusiasm and team spirit. Much reading and preparation went into getting ready for competition. And as expected, everyone was highly impressed by the students' knowledge of the books they read.

4th & 5th graders made up Cove Creek White (placed 3rd) & Burgundy Teams,
Coaches - Carla Greene & Kim McAulay

6th, 7th & 8th grade MS BOB, Coaches - Cynthia Townsend & Madison Hollar

Kinders Donate to Cancer Center
On Friday, December 11, Mrs. Hensley and Mrs. Alisa's kindergarten class, winners of the Fall Festival Pumpkin Book Character contest, were able to proudly present the Seby B. Jones Cancer Center with a check for $231.12.  What a great example of love and generosity demonstrated by some of our youngest Cove Creek Raiders. Thank you to everyone who voted in the contest.  Your donations will help touch the lives of people in our community battling cancer.  #RaiderProud
